Shellcrete driveways

A stylish alternative to pavers. Shellcrete adds curb appeal without the shifting, weeds and settling that come with individual units.

What a driveway has to survive

Vehicle load, heat, and the fact that a driveway is the largest single expanse of hard surface on most properties — so it moves. Control joints are cut on a grid sized to the pour rather than wherever they look best, because a slab that is not given somewhere to crack will choose its own line.

Over an existing slab, the existing cracks matter more than the existing surface. A topping bonded to a slab moves with that slab, so any active crack underneath will eventually telegraph through. That is assessed before quoting, and where it rules out an overlay we will say so rather than cover it.

Turf joints, where they are used, are a drainage decision as much as a design one — they give a large paved area somewhere to put water that is not the street.
